January 16th Meeting - Tom Kyte at ODU

HROUG would like to announce our next meeting in January, 2008. Our guest speaker, Tom Kyte, Senior Technologist, Oracle Server Technologies, Oracle Corp. will be joining us for an evening meeting on January 16th at Old Dominion University.

Mr. Kyte is the Tom of asktom.oracle.com and has authored many excellent books on Oracle technology (many of which should be standard issue for anyone new to design and programming in an Oracle environment). So, mark your calendars and join us for a pizza evening at ODU with Tom Kyte.

The topic of the meeting will be The Top 11 Things About Oracle 11g

Bio :Tom Kyte is a Senior Technologist, Oracle Server Technologies division. Before starting at Oracle, Kyte worked as a systems integrator building large-scale, heterogeneous databases and applications, mostly for military and government customers. Kyte spends a great deal of time working with the Oracle database and, more specifically, working with people who are working with the Oracle database. In addition, Kyte is the Tom behind the AskTom column in Oracle Magazine, answering people’s questions about the Oracle database and its tools ( http://asktom.oracle.com/ ). Kyte is also the author of Expert Oracle Database Architecture (Apress, 2005), Expert One on One Oracle(Wrox Press, 2001/Apress 2004), Beginning Oracle Programing (Wrox press, 2002/Apress 2004), and Effective Oracle by Design (Oracle Press, 2003). These are books about the general use of the database and how to develop successful Oracle applications.

September 5th HROUG Meeting

Just a Bit: Data Warehouse Theory For Practical Design
With so many acronyms for data integration on the market today (SOA, EDA, ESB, ELT, EII, A2A, B2B, etc.), it is hard to know exactly where you should go with your Data Warehouse. This presentation takes a step back from the hubbub of enterprise data integration and focuses upon the true core components of a warehouse and the real meaning of “information” from the bit (0 or 1) up.

July 11th Meeting Update

Just a reminder about the Wednesday July 11th HROUG meeting. Our speaker, Jacob Bardin, with the Sentrigo Security Group, will focus his talk on security issues in the real world, discussing the current market issues as well as the various product capabilities.

It is an evening meeting, running from 6:00PM - 8:30PM at the Cambridge College campus located off Greenbrier Parkway. July 11th Meeting

HROUG is pleased to announce that Jacob Bardin, with the Sentrigo Security Group, will be speaking at the July 11th, 2007 meeting. Sentrigo an innovative startup focusing on Oracle DB Security. A topic that seems to be on everyone’s minds these days. Jacob will focus his talk on security issues in the real world, discussing the current market issues as well as the various product capabilities.

June 6th Meeting

We are happy to announce that we have lined up our next HROUG meeting for June 6th. System Efficiency, a solutions provider company has offered to come speak to us on service oriented architectures (SOA). At my request, the speakers are going to customize their presentation towards the Oracle/Peoplesoft products, however by utilizing the principals of SOA, there is a broad range of practical and profitable uses for this way of looking at busines needs. This presentation is highly recommended for everyone, especially those of us who have legacy applications and have a need to moderize the presentation of it.
